Possibly a dumb question

I will be doing the Sohc vtec swap in the near future and was planning on fully rebuilding the bottom end. Well, a buddy of mine is swapping out the recently rebuilt engine out of his 88 Integra for a b16a. My question is will the Sohc head fit on the Dohc block? If not, are there any parts off of that engine that would be an upgrade to a Civic Si intake(fuel rail, injectors)?. Or would it be an even better idea to drop that motor in my car? Externally it's basically a Zc right so it should bolt right in. Are the tranny's the same?

Sorry about all the questions but this could save me major $$$$$

the 88 teg engine is a D16A1 ( Browncover ZC) and the Vtec head will not fit it. you can get the engine to fit in the civic but it's more trouble than it's worth because they have different engine mounts. If you are gonna be going DOHC just get a ZC and be done with it, the ZC (black Cover) is alot less trouble since it uses stock motor mounts and gives more horsepowers... downside to it it they are getting a little harder to find and thus getting more pricy.

But you transmission will fit bolth of the block and you best choice is a USDM SI Better drivability and it's also does not require switching axels like the ZC trans does.

hey i am gonna do a sohc vtec swap soon, please give me some info after.

you should take the zc pistons and put them in your sohc vtec. my friend did this to his d15b7 (92 dx), idk if its the pistons but the guy beat a 2001 civic coupe ex. his car is a 92 sedan dx, stock motor with intake header and zc pistons.

i say go with the sohc vtec cause there are more aftermarket parts available. all you have to do is wire vtec, like four wires or you can get one of those msd rpm activator thingys.
its easy to install the sohc vtec, all you have to do is change the drivers side mount.
